Hi I’m Keith Renninson "The Tenacity Expert" here with a new TRIP TIP.  Remember that TRIP is an acronym that stands for tenacity, resilience, imagination and purpose.  Each of these tips is designed to give you a weekly boost and help you use the TRIP System more effectively.  Let’s get started!

Have you ever had a crisis in your life?  Of course, you have.  A mid-life or possibly a mid-career crisis?  Crises have a way of demanding our attention, demanding focus and demanding solutions...quickly!

Does this mean that you need to have a crisis to find your tenacity?  No, but if you develop your tenacity muscle and exercise it regularly it will be ready to act when one arises.  In business, everyday can be a crisis depending on your industry.

First of all, how do you define a crisis?  We all have different tolerances to pain and a crisis is often a painful circumstance.  Can you rate your tolerance from 1-10?  Where do you think you hit a ceiling and need your tenacity to push through?  Most of us can keep focus up to a 7 or 8 and then things begin to become chaotic and stressful.  If that’s your level, you need to have your tenacious attitude begin to kick in around 6.5.

Be intentional with it.  Know that when you reach this point of stress you have another gear to shift into to make the stress level ease as your tenacity takes over.  This enables you to see more options and more creative ways to solve the crisis.  I think you’ll find that there’s a lot of comfort in knowing that you have this trained mental muscle ready, willing and able to assist you in keeping your cool and becoming confident in your decisions and the actions you will implement.

When you train your team, and your clients, in this important tactic, they too will be able to adjust on the fly and accomplish the tasks in front of them more easily.  When you understand how this characteristic can be of enormous help to you and them, you hit the ground running instead of trying to figure out what to do.

At the bottom of my signature line of my emails I have the quote "Everything you desire is just outside your comfort zone."  Crises often force us outside our comfort zone.  That's what happened to me and why I took my ill-fated trip to Nepal where I got lost for a number of days.  I had hit a wall in my life and it was serious, I wanted a change but wasn't sure what kind, how dramatic, or how quickly...my mind was swirling with no solutions in sight.

Take advantage of these times to forge ahead using the energy of the crisis to fuel your tenacity muscle. Like protein is for building the muscles in your body, tenacity is the ingredient that builds strength for the mind.  It’s like a jolt of caffeine that gives you the additional energy to be creative, to be swift in decision making, and confident in your actions.

As always thank you for reading, if you want to learn more about my live or virtual keynotes & breakout sessions contact us using the contact us button above.

Remember to always take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime!

In the meantime, live outside of your comfort zone!

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
