Purpose + Volunteering=Pride

One of the biggest parts of TRIP is the “P” for purpose. They are all important but as I say in my keynotes and workshops, the “P” is the glue that holds everything together. Part of that glue is the ability to step outside yourself and see the world through different eyes.

As with anything connected with our business or personal lives volunteering is a way to feel good about giving back, sharing efforts toward a common goal, and meeting new people with new ideas. Purpose is what drives our lives in many respects; it’s why we get up in the morning and perform at our best to reap what we sow and improve our lives and those of others.

I’ve often touted in this blog that you can have many purposes to reach that goal of a life rich with fulfillment, freedom, and fun.

Over the years I’ve volunteered with many organizations and always came away with a strong sense of accomplishment. Many businesses now offer ways to get credit at work for hours spent on a volunteer project. Employers who recognize the positive results that come from being attached to a charity or other volunteering activity gain respect from the employees and the community as a whole.

The easiest way to get started is to tie your volunteering to an activity that you already do like charity rides on your bicycle, or 5k/10k runs, or trail cleaning while hiking. If you like to build things there’s Habitat for Humanity where you can put your construction skills to work. If you like to cook soup kitchens always need help not just at the Holidays.

Some of my friends have taken the whole paradigm of volunteering to a life occupation and now work for those organizations that satisfy their need for a job and helping others.

TRIP has wonderful aspects in it for both work and charity. It takes tenacity, resilience, imagination, and purpose to make all aspects of your life function at a higher level. Once you adopt the TRIP philosophy it serves you well, believe me. I’ve lived it for a long time now and love how it improves my outlook and my performance.

Find a way to volunteer today and you will see your life in a different way.

Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not of a lifetime.

In the end, it’s just one man’s opinion…mine.

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
