How to Control the Power of Internal Dialogue!

The power of my TRIP Technique ™ lies in the God given character traits of tenacity, resilience, imagination, and purpose. We’ve all got them. Do we always use them? No. Why not? Therein lies the rub.

We humans are a lazy bunch by in large. We’ve got powers way beyond our imagination, but it’s like setting a New Year’s Resolution…by January 10th they are a distant memory.

The one place that we have super control is in our internal dialogue. More often than not we let it run away with itself in a negative way, and that’s damaging to our self-esteem, ego, pride, and weakens the innate ability to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off from a recent fail, and be resilient.

Internal dialogue prevents us from reaching our goals by telling us that we aren’t good enough to reach them, that we don’t have enough knowledge, that our competition is so much better than us…and on, and on, and on it goes until we believe it. Well, don’t believe it. Believe in yourself and your abilities!

The power of our traits can be utilized if we:

·       Exercise our Tenacity muscle every day, by choosing to be strong and accountable.

·       Look for the adventure in all that we do with a sense of curiosity.

·       Look for the humor in our actions and outcomes to reduce the stress.

·       Always keep our goals in mind and seek fulfillment, freedom, and fun!

·       Learn to ask ourselves and our clients better questions for better solutions.

·       Are on the lookout for new methodology to improve our organizational development.

These steps and many more that I’m sure you can come up with help us control the internal dialogue and keep it positive. Take it one step at a time until it becomes habit. You won’t backslide nearly as often once it is.

I’ve mentioned this before, but have you ever watched a ski racer before they race? They are standing alone, eyes closed, their hands moving from side to side in front of them skiing the course in their mind. They can see every turn, every place to increase speed, and how long they can hold a mid-air tuck to stay aerodynamic…all in their mind. And they see themselves doing it in spectacular fashion, winning, throwing their arms in the air in success!

It's all in our minds. We have the traits to control our minds and control our outcomes on our journey to the top. We only have to use daily them to make them habitual.

Use the steps above to help you control your thoughts and you will be off to a great start.

Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime!

It’s just one man’s opinion…mine!

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
