TRIP Tip #7 " Focus, Focus and Focus Some More!"

Hi, this is Keith Renninson, "The Tenacity Expert" professional speaker & author of “Tenacity, You Don’t Have to Get Lost in Nepal to Find Yourself, But it Helps!” with my next installment of my TRIP Tips for the financial services professional. 

Remember that TRIP is an acronym for TENACITY, RESILIENCE, IMAGINATION, AND PURPOSE. 

So, let’s get started! 

Don't let the negative creep in and take things out of focus.  To find clarity focus, focus, and focus some more! What you put your mind to working on it will focus on!

Be tenacious about focusing on your goal, not the pain and discomfort you feel from stepping outside your comfort zone or the doubt that you are experiencing about whether it will succeed or not.  In skiing, bike racing and car racing, we are taught that if there is an obstacle in your path, don't focus on it or you will hit it, focus on where you want to go instead.

Have you ever noticed that when you have a pain in your neck, and you focus on it all the time how it really hurts?  And, as soon as you divert your attention for a little while you suddenly discover that the pain isn't as intense as it was.  If you focus on the action steps moving toward your goal with intent, you will see your anxiety diminish and fade away.  Then with renewed energy and excitement push forward.

Be sure to communicate to your team how important the work each of them do is to the overall mission.  Bring attention to their efforts and build positivity, confidence and pride.

Negativity spawns more negativity.  It is sneaky and insidious and can ruin your day, week or year let alone your overall game plan.  Imagine how it plays with the minds of your clients.  They see the market go down, interest rates drop further, and they begin to get negative about their plan and maybe you.  Stay in touch during the hard times and be tenacious in hammering home how not to focus on the negative.  Maybe instead, it’s time for them to buy stocks, a mutual fund or more insurance to take advantage of the current environment.  Remind them of the TRIP System and what the words mean to them.

Focus really is the answer.  Focus on solutions, a fun solution if possible.  In the real estate business, we always hear that the focus should be on location, location, location.  But, for the rest of us it's focusing on our goal, leading well, and communicating effectively to succeed.
