Imagination in Leadership

(To view this blog as a video click here)

To be a great leader takes a lot of different skills is an understatement.  There have been countless books written on how to be effective at leadership and most involve ways to help employees do their jobs better with more satisfaction.  A happy employee is a productive employee, right?

Getting to that place where leadership is smooth takes a lot of imagination.  It’s in tough times when business is slow, or the competition is tight that great leaders emerge.  Leaders must use all of the resources available to them.  Relying on their team to help them be creative is essential.

The tried-and-true method of brainstorming is a good place to start.  As a leader, you might get the marketing ball rolling here with a new vision plan.  Consider making a vision board that the team contributes to.  If the money is there taking your team on a working retreat weekend to an out-of-the-way place to seriously focus on the problem at hand and come up with new and exciting ideas can be very productive.

Imagination can come from anywhere, so consider bringing in a facilitator or business coach to stir the pot.  If the team hears only from their leadership they can get stale, but a new face brings new energy and enthusiasm.

Use your other TRIP skills and be tenacious at finding the right fit, the right vision at the right time, and then don’t give up on planning something new.  Be resilient quickly, bouncing back from a downturn with an action plan.  Include the front-line workers and the face of the company staff who meet with your customers.   Get their input regularly as to what’s working and what’s not.  Your leadership enthusiasm is what pushes resilience along and enlists the commitment of everyone.

And don’t forget to have a well-defined purpose or mission for all employees to get behind.  Let them see the benefit of your plan through regular communication that they will understand and implement.

Have the company take the TRIP Technique™ Assessment to see who scores high in all four TRIP traits.  Those that have lower scoring should be given special attention to help them become more successful and productive.  Knowledge is power as the old saying goes and knowing who in your employment may be lagging helps you get them to be a better employee.  They will be happier and so will you!

That’s about it for this session, use your imagination and implement the whole TRIP Technique company wide for greater results.

Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime not a trip of a lifetime.

Goodbye,

Keith......

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
