Hi, this is Keith Renninson “The Tenacity Expert” professional speaker & author of the award-winning book “Tenacity, You Don’t Have to Get Lost in Nepal to Find Yourself, But it Helps!”.  I’m here with my next installment of my TRIP Tips for the financial services professional.  Remember that TRIP is an acronym for TENACITY, RESILIENCE, IMAGINATION, AND PURPOSE.  So lets’ get started!

So, what is the “What If” game?  Look at things from inside out and upside down, change the colors, the perspective, and your vision.
  • What if we did it this way?
  • What if we changed that?
  • What if I brought in an expert?

By asking the questions, we stimulate the mind to expand into new areas, new ways of accessing our imagination.

A quick story about how I wrote my book Tenacity.  Looking back, I wrote it almost entirely sitting in a national bookstore chain coffee shop.  Being around the books, and people who liked books, generated a new energy for me.  I watched people meander and shop, and I thought of different ways to tell my story.  For some reason it made me see things in a unique fashion other than sitting at my computer in my office.  At home, I could find other things to do, clean house, take out the trash, or go for a bike ride!  Observing other folks brought a creativity to my writing that I could get enthused about and make the process more fun for me.  Remember, we are after:

  • Fulfillment
  • Freedom
  • & fun!

Often a change of scenery can help with your communications with your staff or clients.  Even though I met with most of my clients in my office when I could change it up I did.  I had many clients in the country, they had farms, ranches, or businesses in small towns.  I would try my “What If” and ask them:

  • What if we take a walk around town?
  • What if we visit the barn to see your new calf?
  • What if we go on horseback to look out over your property?

They seemed to delight in doing this and we cemented our relationship with down-to-earth conversations.  Taking time, not being in a hurry meant a lot to them, they felt heard and understood.  That’s a big deal!

Well, that’s it for this installment, I hope you have some new ideas on how to proceed.  Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime.
See you next time, and in the meantime, see how the “What If” approach can change the environment and success of your appointments with some imaginative ideas.

Goodbye!

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
