There Has Never Been a Better Time to Be an Employee and Show Off Your Excellence!

Given the current state of our economy and businesses in dire need of workers, someone with great tenacity, resilience, imagination, and purpose can quickly make a name for themselves.

Taking advantage of the shortage combined with your ability to stand out from the crowd should be a no-brainer…this climate is perfect for the individual who wants to fast track their career. This goes for workers in the trades and professionals alike

Employers are starved for employees with good work ethics and character traits who are trainable and sustainable.  Employers invest a lot in training a new employee and if they jump ship for another job that money is gone…this is an expensive proposition. For employees who know what they want in a career and are willing to work for it can put their skills on display quickly.

Having loyalty to the company and a desire to help it grow while you climb the ladder is very attractive to an employer…maybe a little old school to some today. But if you choose wisely and pick a career and company with strong benefits and upward mobility you can excel in style.

I know the idea of staying with one company for a long time isn’t how our college grads are looking at employment right now. With signing bonuses and other perks being offered to new hires it’s easy to see why some people are changing jobs quickly.  As much as this might seem like something new, it’s really not. When I entered the financial services industry in the mid-70’s I knew several stockbrokers who would regularly change jobs and take their book of business with them to obtain higher and higher bonuses and salaries. Eventually, this practice faded as they realized that the employee wasn’t adding to their book as rapidly any longer and bringing in new business.

As we learn how to work post-COVID with remote and in-person jobs and the workforce settles down in their careers I think employers and employees will re-discover that having the TRIP traits is as important as it always has been. Those folks with these skills will rise to the top and excel. Strong TRIP skills will always be in demand because they are foundational to a good employee. Learning how to use them at the right time, in the right way will always garner attention, more money and praise.

But be humble about it. This isn’t a time to toot your own horn too loudly, just work hard and bring results that can’t be ignored. Keep your sense of humor and be happy in your work, this also makes you a great candidate for advancement.  If you can get your foot in the door, show off your excellence, maybe you’ll own the company one day.

Lastly, remember my Tenacity Creed:

·       Admit that you want it!

·       Be willing to work for it!

·       Know that disappointment is a distinct possibility!

·       Do it anyway!

·       Repeat!

Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime!

In the end, it’s just one man’s opinion…mine!

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
