TRIP TIP #38 “When Lost, Look for the Grand Adventure!”

Hi, this is Keith Renninson “The Tenacity Expert” professional speaker & author of the award-winning book “Tenacity, You Don’t Have to Get Lost in Nepal to Find Yourself, But it Helps!”.  I’m here with my next installment of my TRIP Tips for the financial services professional.  Remember that TRIP is an acronym for TENACITY, RESILIENCE, IMAGINATION, AND PURPOSE.  So, lets’ get started!

I've said the title of this Tip as a phrase in a lot in these videos, and for good reason.  We all want excitement and adventure in our lives to some extent.  Some people will seek more intense adventure than others and some will seek a very laid-back time.  I have friends who will only live their adventures through the lives of characters in books, movies and videos.  But, no matter how you get your adventure, be on the lookout for how you can add it in your everyday life.  Riding an elevator with someone new can be adventurous.  Grocery shopping can be an adventure in food delicacies or unusual shoppers.  Being single I look for single women to talk to and ask questions about cooking, make it fun because you never know what can come of it, right?.

I mentioned in the last TRIP Tip that we can have multiple purposes and that having a travel purpose is a real plus to adding adventure to your life.  We all work hard, long hours, intense projects and clients so the prescription for recovery is an adventurous vacation.  Adventure relieves the tension and forces you to look at life differently.

Whenever possible, take short 3-4 day adventures more often than trying to plan a longer possibly international trip.  They don’t cost as much, don’t involve longer travel, break up a month into shorter time frames that make you feel you are enjoying life more often and still getting your work done.  This is also something that I have encouraged my clients to do.  Help them manage the monthly expenses to budget for small and large vacations.  They will feel that they are planning more  fun into their lives with you rather than just investments and insurance.

We all enjoy the adventure of exploring new places, new restaurants, new cultures.  A lot of my cycling friends do bike rides in other states and countries.  You are going at a slower pace, see so much more and can be wonderful family fun.  Whenever possible I would suggest that your adventure time off be one that includes physical activity.  Sports like tennis, golf, skiing, swimming can be done in other towns or states.  I’ve never done scuba diving or flown an airplane and they will be on the bucket list soon.

Whenever you feel a little lost or overwhelmed, find something that builds excitement  in you and takes your mind off work,  just go do it and do it often…that’s an order!

Well, that’s it for this installment, I hope you have some new ideas on how to proceed.  Remember to take a TRIP for a lifetime, not a trip of a lifetime.
See you next time, and in the meantime, plan time off frequently so you can recharge your batteries and be ready to perform at your best!

Goodbye!

Teams using TRIP!
By Keith Renninson 07 Apr, 2023
This is the second in a series of four on team building with TRIP. Remember, in my last blog I shared that it would be performed in reverse with “purpose” first and now we will implement the “imagination” section. Imagination is probably the most fun of the character traits of TRIP. I love it because I can immerse myself in creativity and play!
Team building

How can TRIP help with team building you ask? By using it backwards! Huh? Yup, we will start with “Purpose” instead of Tenacity. The series will move from purpose to imagination, to resilience, and lastly to tenacity. When you look at TRIP from this reverse perspective it becomes clear that it flows naturally in team building and task completion. As with any project you must know your purpose first, so that’s where we will start.
